Sun - of - a - Beach Day
Sunny day, grabbed the dogs and off for a day trip along the coast, north from Morgan Hill to San Francisco Bay area (San Mateo) then the 101 back to home base.

Stopped along the seawall in Santa Cruz - fishing off the cliffs for rock cod, flounder, halibut - whatever might show up. Small crab become a nuisance as they crawl up the lines to get the bait.
Recently, salmon fishing was abundant on the other side of the pier as sardines and smelt made their way up the creek, salmon followed.
First beach stop - near Davenport.
Fifty miles south of San Francisco - Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Since 1872 the lighthouse has guided mariners. The tallest lighthouse on the West Coast of the US and still an active Coast Guard aid but closed to tours since 2001. The Lighthouse is now a hostel with lodging in four houses set beside the lighthouse.
Half Moon Bay, with a population of approximately 11,500 has some of the most beautiful coastlines in California. A popular destination for golfing, fishing (Dungeness crab season begins Nov 14). California fisherman unloaded nearly 32 million pounds of Dungeness during the 2011-12 season. Opening wholesale price is $3 a pound, up from $2.25 last year, after a price dispute delayed the start of the season until after Thanksgiving.

High up, on a winding road, we head over to Hwy 280 at Pacifica, inland back on the 101 to Morgan Hill (approx an hour).
