Aldergrove & the Wet Coast

Happy Easter

Arrived in B.C. March 25th - no difficulty coming across the border, other than a few questions.   We came across at Ladner (near Abbottsford) and it has no Nexus lane - the young woman was asking questions as to whether or not we had any work done on the motorhome as we told her we are going to Aldergrove (to RV Park).

Apparently been a mild and non-wet winter compared to the usual.   Until, that is, we arrived!   It has been raining almost nonstop since we arrived March 25th and finding it

c o l d.  Hovering around 3C (38F) evenings and early morningish.  (Yes, we do awake relatively early!)....just do not do any sports early morning.   Can not understand people that can exercise at 6:30 am.   Even IF it happens to be over 100 F by 10:00.

Eagle Wind RV Park, Aldergove

A small RV Park close to Abbotsford and right next to highway 1 (freeway noises).   It's a quiet RV park with a lot of workers living here but the traffic in early morning hours can be a bit distracting when not used to noisy highways.

Right now we are paying around $680 plus electricity.  We will have a huge electric bill for the month here because we have used a lot of heat and of course, laundry and dryer add up quickly.

Found a park just five minutes away.   We are in the area of farms but very close by is Aldergrove - a small town with all the amenities.

Tennis courts, outdoor swimming (when open) and soccer next to a school and right downtown it is a great location with lots of space.   I'm in awe of the changes in playgrounds since I grew up.   Don't even know what some of the stuff is and what the kids do on it like ......

Another park which is only fifteen minutes away and huge!   Fields and fields, athletic park with lacrosse, 8 baseball fields, track & field, a school, skateboard park, mt bike park with ramps - narrow and wide, teeter, log rides; artificial turf soccer/football fields.   Kylie ran down this bike ramp - doesn't look steep but has quite an angle on it.

Tazz has put herself on a podium - standing on the newly developing baseball field to be on the pitchers mound, waiting to pounce on her sister.

Another storm brewing and no one around. 

Unfortunately, today, while at the park I saw three Asian guys around 14-15 yrs of age playing around, then they were doing this; climbing up on the storage bin which is used for storing mowing machinery (have seen the doors opened for that purpose before).  


Two were below, this one above with a bicycle.  I thought, at first, he was going to ride off the container!  NOT.   He hucked the bike onto the ground blow, crashing the bike.   Then three times, the same thing was happening.   I decided enough and walked towards them, not too closely and took a photo with the cell phone and told them I was going to security with their photo.   They left.   So, I thought.   I walked in a big circle and saw them on the other side of this building to see them playing on the little kids playground area.   Did not say anymore but I checked out the area around here and sure enough, found the bike trashed and thrown behind the trash bins.

Other than checking out pickleball (indoor as it has  been raining) in Cloverdale, Surrey and Abbotsford, we have been checking out vehicles and alternative RV's for when the motorhome sells.  But for now, still enjoying the motorhome and are very glad the heated flooring was fixed.

Last summer we spent time going through the Okanagan and decided to book a place to stay in Kelowna, in an Apple Orchard for five months, starting the end of April.

Last week, we received an email (finally, as we could not get a confirmation nor a reply other than we were  booked in).   We were told with two weeks notice that the site we booked would be totally unavailable as they are doing some major construction (building a distillery).   So, a huge scramble as it is difficult to find places in the Okanagan over the summer but even more so, for such a length of time.

Found a place but would mean moving three times within the park, into the overflow to accommodate other bookings.

We are heading to Vancouver Island tomorrow to catch up on mail, taxes and doctors appointments.   Will be only staying two nights in the Comox area then off to Victoria to stay a brief time at Marc's mothers place (she is in Florida currently).

So, with a lot of ifs, buts and ands, we have no plans as everything depends on the motorhome selling.   We have been full timing for 8 years (two trips for three months with the fifth wheel) and now, we would like to go places we have not been able to go with a large RV, so downsizing.   Eventually, getting a small place in Comox to hang our hats for spring/summer.
