Tuscon, Arizona

What happened to "click - it - or - ticket?"   California has signs everywhere and I saw one of those since coming to Arizona at Old Tuscon.   We have seen this several times - kids in frigid temperatures, riding and enjoying the wind in their hair, no seatbelts, enjoying the freedom of the back of a pickup.


People ask what is the economy of Tuscon as, when you drive for an hour, you will see (west side) miles of decrepid, old homes with bars on the windows, broken windows, trashed yards, and miles of auto repair businesses,  homeless people pushing carts, wilderness with a few horses.  

Mining was huge (copper) in the mid 70's; today arts, tourism, manufacturers, high tech - electronics, aerospace and computer technology.  The University of Arizona is one of the main employers, the Gem & Fossil Show twice a year is a huge tourism draw, Tuscon medical centre and Air Force Base are some of the largest today.
 
We have yet to see a high end area of town (pockets) but there are alot of run-down neighbourhoods and we admit, we are in the way-out district of Tuscon.  Mexicans prevail and Marc golfed with a Mexican ... he stated, the main employers for them are hotels, Walgreens (drugstores), auto repairs .. blue collar workers - basically, servicing the 'white' folk.
