Two stressed Canadians

SAGA CONTINUES . . . 

The day before we leave (Sept 23) Marc pulls in all the slides (pull-outs to some people's language) and one of the slides acts up!   He lays against the Honda Element and pushes with his feet to get the front living room slide to go in!   So....... off to Eugene, OR where we will have the coach looked at.   (Eugene/Junction City is the area where some major RV's have been manufactured and you can get any RV serviced).

Got up at 6 am, leaving Seal Bay Park to catch the 10:15 ferry from Duke Point (about a two hour drive.

NO SLEEP the night before due to a humungus wind and rain storm - keeping us up with branches and pine cones falling on the roof.

1:30 pm

Border crossing was uneventful ... asking a few questions but Marc has to drive thru major TIGHT lanes with a cement curb on one side and plastic cones on the other (turns out we have a 'chalk line' down the left side where we went thru the border) to get thru the Nexus border. 


Exhausting .... 15 hour day of driving from the start in Comox to Eugene. .. . . also, NO food in the fridge.   Tried to get some munchies but limited to humus and bread and a cheese stick!  No milk, no sandwiches (allowed peanut butter),  no meat, no vegetables or fruits . . . . we can't just pull over once we cross the border to pick up a few things!!

End up at the RV glass place at 9 PM to spend the night where they have three sites with electricity & water free while waiting for servicing. 

Somewhere between Seattle and Tacoma we got a rock chip on the driver's side.  Turns out to need replacing and an ICBC claim . . . we no longer have any phones as we have to arrange them when arriving in the US and we have just arrived, no time to get a phone number.   So, used Skype while at the glass place only to lose two calls and have to start over with a new person.   Eventually got it sorted out and they tried to repair the chip but most likely wouldn't last before splitting in about 3-4 places.

So, overnight and not moving the coach until 3 pm the next day for the windshield to set,  we are en route to Junction City (just a half hour away) to have the slide checked out.

In the meantime, drove back up to Salem (just over an hour north of here) to pick up Marc's new turquoise Yeti.   He replaced two mt bikes with this new bike!

The slide turned out to be air and luckily we needed no repairs... . lucky, as we tried to find an RV site and NO GO ... the Oregon Ducks are coming to town and all RV sites are booked for the weekend.

Downtown Coburg which is across the way from us is quaint. . . they have the "best" Pizza in town and people stop by from all outlying communities.   Downtown Coburg has this small 'library' . . . along the street is a small glassed in case where locals can trade in books or take books.   No local library but a trusting system . . it is great!

Stayed the night at Premier RV ... . Junction City before heading south to Bakersfield for our oil change.   

No SLEEP AT ALL!

Trains blast thru Junction City until 1:30 am

THEN, there is one RV parked next to us with an Alaskan license plate; the couple come flying in with their vehicle at 1:45 AM and spend about an hour talking, opening the bay doors in the coach and unloading their vehicle for over an hour.   They drove all the way from Pr Rupert that night, ending up  at our site at 1:45 AM!

We started our coach at 6 am to head down to Corning, Ca. which is about a 9 hour day for us.
