Apacheland Days
Apacheland was originally where Gold Canyon (just 10 mins from where we are in Apache Jnction) now stands and for many years after the hub of filming in Apacheland, the land was being threatened by development and sales and filming diminshed. After two fires (1969 and 2004) which virtually destroyed most of the 'town' of Apacheland, two buildings were moved to the now Superstition Mtn Museum grounds, with the aid of much financing and help from volunteers and the Museum.
Today, Apaceland Days commemorates those days in the 50s and 60s of the hottest filming area for westerns. Films included so many actors and actresses it is hard to mention but a few were Kenny Rogers and Linda Evans in Gambler, some shots with Route 66, films with Elvis ("Charro" - the first non musical with Elvis), episodes of Toombstone, Rifleman, Paladin, Have Gun will Travel . . . actors like Clint Walker, Victoria Principal (Dallas, Lorne Greene (Bonanza), Jack Palance (Paladin, Ripley's Believe it or Not) Sean Connery & on it goes.
Comedy -Trick-roping extroidenaire. Still wearing those checkered boots!
Tribute to Marty Robbins is one of the main events (Arizona-born musical legent). Johnny Legend will join in with Rollie Stevens (an outdoor seated event, ticketed - which we didn't end up seeing).

A couple "bad-asses" put in jail! Names: Marc Quicktrigger & Steve Goldfinger.... known for rustling sheep and stealing gold in Usery Pass, pilaging gardens for the organic mexican poblano peppers and holding up stagecoaches between Superstition Mountain and Tortilla Flats to get directions.
Pistol-packin' mamma - kills her "cougar hunters." The "Mohave Muleskinners" re-enact scenes from the rowdy past with disagreements settled with gunfire and horse thieves slung from trees.
A fun day of exhibits; Evalenca Henry ( a master basket weaver demonstration), flute playing, arrow head crafting and other exhibits, food, music etc.
