Birds, Birds, Birds
Killdeer Plover
This Plover lives in open, irrigated farmland or fields (shorebirds and closely related to the Sandpiper), are ground nesters and they love the local golf courses (wetlands, shores and food provided; primarily fly larvae & grasshoppers).
Ross's Goose
Unusual to us (in BC) but apparently this is a goose that is similar to & will mate with, the Snowgoose. It is also a majorily hunted species.

Great-Tailed Grackle "Look up .... w - a - y up"
Feed primarily on invertebrates, plants, small fish, tadpoles and sometimes small birds. These birds are not unlike the common crows we have at home in B.C. They are smart, annoying as they are noisey and have a wide variety of communicative sounds. They remind me of an incredible documentary by D. Suzuki on the "Crow."

Great White Egret
And, our famous "Canada Geese." They are not 'allowed' onto our golf courses. Here, on one golf course we have gone to a few times (Dobson Ranch, Mesa) they are prevalent and just like everywhere they go (no pun).... messy!
Went shopping about 4 days ago in Chandler (about a half hour drive from here). Chandler is a high end, no apparent recession part of the Valley with trendy shops, upscale mall and restaurants galore.
Well, just two days after we were there, "Police evacuated Chandler Fashion Center on Wednesday after officers with a U.S. Marshal's fugitive task force exchanged gunfire with a man in a mall parking lot around noon. The man fled into the mall's Sears store, where officers lost him.
Minutes later, authorities surrounded the Baja Fresh fast-food restaurant in a strip center north of the mall in response to reports of shots being fired and a hostage situation. The suspect fired several shots upon entering, likely into the air. Nobody was injured." With guns drawn, "get out, get out" being yelled by sherriffs, marshalls, police & fire crew, the mall was cleared & no one hurt after about three rounds of gunfire. People left restaurants without cell phones, purses or personal belongings in chaos.
All turned out & an arrest was made with no one injured. Apparently, all the choas was related to a string of robberies.
PS .... Marc is still sick, on antibiotics (recurrence of strep, added in with bronchitis, then sinusitis). Not a happy camper!
