"Camping" at Dead Horse Ranch State Park (Jerome lights on the hillside in the background). The Park includes over 423 acres at 3300 ft elevation, with the 6 mile Verde River Greenway State Park alongside the campgrounds. A very quiet & peaceful park with over 100 sites, cabins and a well stocked lagoon. Lots to do in and around the area with nature walks, mt biking in the Coconino Nat'l Forest, fishing and horseback riding tours.

After alot of research and considerations, Marc is the proud owner of a new specialized 29er. A couple of scrapes on the leg, after his 1st outing on the new machine.

Prescott Valley (10 miles east of Prescott), formerly known as Lonesome Valley, was once a flourishing gold mining town and cattle ranching area. Prescott is home to over 40,000 people.
The Granite Dells just north of Prescott; large granite boulders surrounding Watson Lake - a very popular biking, hiking and picnic area.

The 100 block of S. Montezuma street was known as Whiskey Row named for its numerous (over 40)saloons. In July of 1900 the entire block was destroyed by fire and rebuilt by 1905.
In 1901 the saloon was dubbed the "most rich & elegant" on the Row with the best materials used. In 1901 it was the 5 cents for a beer & "a man could pay for his drinks with unminted gold."

Then a drive to Jerome (hwy 89A) - 33 miles along a highway of switchbacks. The highest point in elevation is at 7500 feet at Mingus Mountain Campground, midway between Prescott & Jerome.

Road cycling is very popular along this route so there is no room for speeding and absolutely 'NO' shoulder to ride on, just signs saying "Share the Road."
