Apache Trail to Roosevelt Dam
Continuing on with our day trekk along the Apache Trail to the Roosevelt Dam: Above is a view of the suspension bridge built that replaced the original crossing over the dam which takes you on highway 188 to Payson and in the other direction back to Phoenix and Mesa.
Above, Roosevelt Dam. First built in 1911 & modified in 1989/96. A 17 hr battle ensued by a New York city lawyer who fought to establish a water reservoir in order to farm. As president of the Salt River Valley Water User's Association he was largely responsible for the construction of the Roosevelt Dam. The dam is named after Theodore Roosevelt and forms the Roosevelt Lake as it impounds the Salt River. Hydroelectric power just happened to become a byproduct of water delivery and today the Roosevelt and three other facilities make up solar, wind, geothermal and other energy sources with an approx 930,000 customer base.

Winding, dirt road. According to a group from Manitoba coming the opposite way, they met up with a 40' motorhome in front of us, heading towards Roosevelt Dam. Don't envy them OR anyone meeting them on this road!
