En route to Chowchilla, California (a 7 hr drive from Hemet). The terrain changes rapidly from harsh, flat desert, to treed agricultural land with green pastures to (below) no trees or inhabitants and as far as you can see.

The Lakes Golf Course; free 18 hole golf for two included with our RV site fee which is very reasonable. The course is 7,244 yds total and the fairways are long . . .127 slope and 75.6 rating. The surrounding farm land is host to numerous coyotes.
The gated community surrounding the golf course; some residences across the water from the fairways are the prime spots. Some homes (including a five bedroom, two storey) are going for $130,000. Chowchilla has a population of approximately 17,000 and is primarily agricultural business; vineyards, citrus, melons and dairy farming. There are two HUGE women's prisons in Chowchilla; Central California Women's Facility houses over 3,100 prisoners and Valley State 3,700. We drove to Madera (just 10 minutes South) and it appeared to be a very low income and decrepid community in our eyes. Most people seem to do their main shopping in Fresno or Modesto (about an hour away). We are here one more day and golfing then heading north on our way to Junction City, Oregon to have our carpets replaced with new carpet and hickory laminate.
