Arizona Fine Art Expo
The art festival runs from Jan 14 to Mar 28th. Marc's Uncle & Aunt drove us to Scottsdale (about 40 minutes maximum from Mesa ... and a suburb basically) to see these AMAZING artists (over 100) including every type of art from acrylic, oil, glass blowing, sculpting, weaving, jewellry and on and on. The unique part of this art show is you get to watch the artists working on their art and talk about their interpretations about their work. Must be difficult for some as they have to work from photos in order to do their work in the studio whereas most of their work takes them outdoors and in nature.
Fiona Purdy from Scottsdale - a Mecca for horse competitors and THE most famous Arabian Horse Show was just held; unfortunately I missed it. Spoke for some time with Fiona; she has studied horses for years although never owning her own horse & she does incredible pictures with very unique borders ... her signature.
Absolutely fabulous bronze sculptures; this one was beautiful and some of the western cowboy sculptures were amazing (detail, detail!!!!) We saw some of the clay works in the midst of the process. One sculptor is obviously very knowledegeable about local mammals; he had a full-sized bronze sculpture of a mt lion but what was interesting was his work on a clay sculpture of a Javelina (wild pig). ... you do not want to meet those teeth (very scissor like and about 6" in length). They must weight about 60+ lbs and about the height of a German Shepherd.
