Watson Lake

Just 4 miles from Prescott (a short 40 mile trip from Camp Verde) is a beautiful 380 acre recreational playground. Prescott is an outdoor mecca. Watson lake is not only super scenic but has camping and picnic sites as well as fishing, boating, canoeing and the surrounding granite formations provide great hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding and mt bike trails.

Watson Lake was formed in the early 1900's when a dam was built on Granite Creek. The city of Prescott purchased the surrounding land to produce this fabulous recreational playground.

This lake was used in scenes for the film "Billy Jack." And, National Geographic has photographed the area (I would love to be part of that!)

The rock formations are not unlike native artwork. At the head of the trail system (Rails-to-Trails) is the old Sante Fe railroad. The Mile-High trail system currently has about 28 miles of trails with work to build trails that eventually will encircle Prescott.
