The Verde Canyon Railway

from Clarkdale (20 min drive from Camp Verde) to Perkinsville ( approx 38 miles each way). In 1912 the railway was built to support the copper mines of Jerome.
The Wickenburg (our particular car); this train holds 400 guests and it was almost full. First class (our seating) was approximately $20 more than coach and we had extremely comfortable seating plus food; sandwiches, chicken wings, brownies, cheese, pickles, olives and a taste of champagne or wine.
Scenery changed constantly, over the two hour trip.

En route back 'home' .. . . to Clarkdale.

Clarkdale was home to a smelter (closed in 1953) and began hauling cement. Today, a 20.2 million ton pile of slag exists in Clarkdale. Plans are in place to reprocess the slag for the 1/2 oz of gold/ton in process.
