Pheasant Run Golf Course is a PGA tour golf course of 7329 yards (6349 for the average person) with super thick grass which feels like artificial turf when walking on it. With most holes 385 to 487 yds and many water hazards it is a challenging, fun course. Wind most days make it even more challenging. We went from 35+ c with no hint of a breeze, to 22 with a brisk wind, then a downpouring day, the rest of our time 23-25.
The name is derived from warlike 'Chauchila Yokut Indians' who chased whitemen to Yosemite (who claimed to discover Yosemite Valles). Today, one highschool uses the nickname of "Redskin" as their mascot.
Chowchilla is remembered for a macabur incident in 1975: The following information was gathered from printed newspaper accounts:
Crime History: 26 children vanish in Chowchilla kidnapping
By: Scott McCabe
Examiner Staff Writer July 14, 2010
On this day, July 15, in 1976, three ne'er-do-well young men from rich families attempted the perfect crime by kidnapping and ransoming a school bus full of children in Chowchilla, Calif.
Fred Newhall Woods IV and brothers James and Richard Schoenfeld abducted 26 children and their bus driver and hid the bus in a ditch. The trio of privileged young men drove their 27 victims around in two vans for 11 hours before hiding them in a moving van buried in a rock quarry owned by Woods' father.
The victims dug their way out, and police found a $5 million ransom note on the Woods estate. The trio involved have been given life sentences.

The Carpenter Bee is about 1" in length and not aggressive unless provoked. They tend to make nests in undecaying wood which can be homes, therefore becoming a minor pest in some cases.
