Left Quartzsite to our destination of a few weeks: "Dead Horse Ranch" State Park in Cottonwood (20 miles SW of Sedona). Had 'camp' all set up by 2 pm, temperature of about 65, slight wind and sunny skies.

| Stick Bug |
This approx 3" bug was found clinging to our front tire today. Stick bugs take on the color of their habitat (mainly brown or green) They feed on oak leaves and vegetation under the oak. The insect molts, forming a new skeleton under the old one. Some give off a putrid odor to fend off predators; they will sometime stand perfectly still for hours, camouflaging themselves against their backdrop.

| Flight of the Snowbirds to Quartzsite (Jan/Feb) |
About a 7 hour trekk with a pit stop overnight at "88 Shades" RV Park in Quartzsite ( a small, tight cornered gravel spot with about 75% full time residents) and in downtown Quartzsite. For two months Quartzsite expands by about a million and a half visitors; normal population of 3,500. Home of the World Famous Gem & Mineral Shows (9 major shows, 2,000 vendors and 15 swap meets, mainly taking place Jan/Feb).
